Records get inspected before license issue or renewal.
The bill requires the state agency that licenses private security companies to inspect a company's employment records before issuing or renewing its license, to confirm the company has not misclassified employees as independent contractors under federal guidelines. It also bars licensed security companies from intentionally misclassifying employees as independent contractors. Private security companies and their workers are affected, and starting September 1, 2025, new and renewal applications face a records check.
