Summary

Up from 31 days after birth.

The bill doubles the window parents have to enroll a newborn in their employer health plan, from 31 days to 60 days after birth. It touches employees and their newborns covered by multiple employer welfare arrangements, small employer plans and large employer plans, and the insurers and arrangements that run them. Automatic newborn coverage now lasts until the 61st day instead of the 32nd day, giving families more time to send notice and pay any added premium, for plans issued or renewed on or after January 1, 2026.
