“Not later than December 1, 2026, the department shall submit to the governor, the lieutenant governor, the speaker of the house of representatives, and each member of the legislature a written report”…

Bill text, introduced version (I)

The bill's only action is a study and a report due in late 2026. Any change to disabled parking waits for a future legislature to act on the recommendations.

Summary

New disabled parking rules wait for a later bill. Police get asked for citation counts.

The bill orders the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles to study how much disabled parking Texas has now and will need later, with help from the Department of Public Safety, the Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities, and the Texas Demographic Center. It touches people with disabilities, including disabled veterans and people with mobility impairments, and asks local police for counts of disabled-parking citations where possible. Nothing changes on the ground yet: the department must send a report with recommendations to state leaders and lawmakers by December 1, 2026, and any new parking rules would need a later bill.
