Summary

The report is due March 1, 2026. Any real response waits for a future legislature.

The bill orders the Texas Division of Emergency Management to study how droughts and wildfires could affect Texas over the next 50 years, covering ecology, urban heat, the economy, local firefighting resources and ways to reduce risk. The division must gather input from state agencies such as DPS, Agriculture, Parks and Wildlife and TCEQ, plus cities and environmental groups, and send a written report with any legislative recommendations to state leaders by March 1, 2026. Nothing changes on the ground beyond the report itself, and the law expires January 1, 2027.
