First half violence prevention, second half gun safety and laws.
This bill lets Texas school districts and charter schools offer 12th graders an elective course on community safety and firearm safety. If a school offers it, the first half must cover family violence prevention, sexual assault prevention and self-defense, and the second half must cover firearm safety, gun laws, and the classroom part of the state handgun proficiency course. Students must pass the first half before taking the second, teachers must point students who disclose abuse to licensed health professionals, and the course can start in the 2026-2027 school year.
