Bill text, introduced version (I)

The bill nudges the population cutoff down by 5,000 people. That kind of small change usually pulls in a specific county or two, though the caption does say it covers only certain county employees.

Summary

A 5,000-person nudge, plus any county with a civil service system.

The bill lets more county commissioners courts set uniform work-hour rules for county employees whose pay the court sets or approves. It lowers the population cutoff from 355,000 to 350,000 and adds any county that has a county civil service system, but it leaves out sheriff's and constable's office employees in civil service counties under 350,000 people. Counties that fall in the new range or have civil service systems gain the option to set and enforce common hours for department heads, assistants, deputies and other staff.
