THE TEXT

“teach respect for another person's bodily autonomy and confidence in protecting one's own bodily autonomy”

Bill text, introduced version (I)

The caption speaks only of instruction on bullying and harassment. The body adds a separate bodily autonomy topic to the health curriculum that the caption does not name, though it is arguably related to harassment prevention.

Caption: bullying and harassment. Bill: self-defense, plus “respect for another person’s bodily autonomy.”

The bill tells the State Board of Education to add new topics to the required health curriculum, working with the Texas School Safety Center. Public school students would learn about self-defense in response to bullying and harassment, and would also be taught respect for other people's bodily autonomy and confidence in protecting their own. The new curriculum standards apply starting with the 2025-2026 school year.
