Summary

At least colonel, with 15 years as a commissioned officer.

The bill rewrites who can be appointed as Texas adjutant general, the officer who heads the state's military forces. A candidate would only need to be serving as an officer of at least colonel in the Texas military forces and have 15 years as a commissioned officer with an active Army or Air Force unit or the Texas military forces. It drops the current requirements for federal recognition, prior federal active duty, General Officer Federal Recognition Board submission, and five years with the Texas National Guard, so a state-only officer could now qualify.
