Default punishment drops to Class C.
This bill changes the default punishment for driving while your license is invalid so that it is a Class C misdemeanor, and it repeals one of the subsections that set a higher punishment. It touches drivers caught on a suspended or invalid license, plus the police, prosecutors and courts who handle those cases. Most of these cases become fine-only Class C cases, the offense comes off a separate list of lower-level offenses tied to the citation rules in Article 14.06(c), and two higher-penalty subsections, (f-1) and (f-2), remain for offenses committed on or after September 1, 2025.
