Summary

Reserve deputies and retired peace officers can now serve.

The bill widens the list of people who can serve as the armed security officer that Texas law already requires at public schools. It adds reserve deputy sheriffs who are peace officers and honorably retired peace officers who keep an active commission and meet listed training and firearm requirements. Starting September 1, 2025, school districts can fill the armed officer requirement from a larger pool of qualified officers.
