Summary

Covers any diagnosed complication likely to cause serious bodily injury.

The bill widens an existing legal defense for doctors and health care providers who are sued or fined under the state's abortion ban. Today that defense covers only ectopic pregnancies and early premature rupture of membranes; the bill adds any other pregnancy complication a physician has diagnosed that has a substantial likelihood of causing serious bodily injury. Starting September 1, 2025, a doctor sued over treating a pregnant woman with such a complication can defend the case by showing reasonable medical judgment.
