Summary

Warrant and court-order powers to install trackers and seek access to communications.

The bill rewrites the list of officers who count as an "authorized peace officer" under the state law on tracking devices and access to phone and electronic communications. It cleans up a double-lettered entry left by two 2023 laws, keeps school and college police on the list, and adds investigators commissioned by the commissioner of insurance. Starting September 1, 2025, Texas Department of Insurance investigators could use the warrant and court-order powers in that chapter to install tracking equipment and seek access to communications.
