Summary

Any course now, not just criminal justice, and not only undergrads.

The bill widens the existing tuition and lab-fee exemption for working Texas peace officers so it covers any course, not just criminal justice or law enforcement courses, and no longer limits it to undergraduates. It touches state and local peace officers enrolled in law enforcement-related degree programs, public colleges and universities that must waive the charges, and the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement, which must write rules defining which degree programs count. Starting with the fall 2025 semester, eligible officers, including graduate students, pay no tuition or lab fees for any course in a qualifying degree program.
