Bill text, introduced version (I)

Paired with an enrollment window of 125,000 to 200,000 students, this bracket exempts a very small set of large urban districts from the new two-year, non-staggered term rules that apply statewide. The bill widens that exemption to cover all of Section 11.059 and Section 11.052(h).

Summary

No more staggered terms. Districts of 125,000 to 200,000 students in 2.5M+ counties skip the term rules.

The bill moves every independent school district trustee election to the November general election date for state and county officers, cuts trustee terms to two years, and ends staggered terms so all seats are filled at once. It touches school boards and voters in every independent and municipal school district, though one district type in a county of more than 2.5 million with 125,000 to 200,000 students is exempted from the term rules. Districts with spring or other election dates must switch to the November date by December 31, 2025, and the law takes effect September 1, 2025.
