relating to the eligibility of an organization to receive surplus agricultural products under certain grants awarded by the Department of Agriculture.

Caption from analyzed text · version H.

Summary

Serve five or more Texas counties, and the grantee must share, network or not.

The bill changes who can get a state Department of Agriculture grant for moving surplus farm products to food banks, and it requires the grantee to share those products and grant resources with any food bank operating in five or more Texas counties. It touches the nonprofit that coordinates the statewide food bank network and the regional food banks that rely on it, including ones outside that network. On the ground, a food bank serving five or more counties can no longer be cut off from grant-funded surplus food because it left or never joined the grantee's network.
