Summary

“Guidance” becomes “school counseling.” “Social” gets dropped.

The bill rewrites the job description of Texas public school counselors in the Education Code. It drops "social" abilities from the counselor's primary duty, renames the "guidance" program a "school counseling" program, and adds students at risk of unhealthy problem-solving or harming themselves or others to the groups the program must serve. Counselors would also have to make referrals in consultation with the student's parent or guardian, starting with the 2025-2026 school year.
