Summary

TDCJ takes custody the first day after paperwork is certified.

The bill cuts the deadline for the state prison system to pick up convicted felons from county jails, moving it from 45 days to the first day after the required paperwork is certified. It touches the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, county jails and sheriffs, and people sentenced to prison, state jail or death who are waiting in county custody. On the ground, the state must move these people out of county jails almost right away, which shifts the cost and space burden from counties to the state.
