Summary

A body becomes soil. Rules due December 1, 2025.

This bill adds natural organic reduction, a process that breaks a body down into soil, to the legal definition of cremation in Texas. It covers crematories, funeral businesses and the Texas Funeral Service Commission, which must write rules for the new method, including its process and containers, by December 1, 2025. On the ground, licensed crematory businesses could offer this method as a legal form of cremation once the rules are in place.
