Summary

Exempt from carry limits and the banned-places list.

The bill adds retired government lawyers to the list of people exempt from Texas's handgun carry limits and its list of places where weapons are banned. It covers people who retired after serving as attorney general, a United States attorney, a district, criminal district, county or municipal attorney, or an assistant in one of those offices, as long as they hold a Texas handgun license. Starting September 1, 2025, those retirees can carry a licensed handgun in places where other license holders cannot, like active prosecutors already can.
