Summary

The governor’s successor takes command, not the adjutant general.

The bill changes who commands the Texas military forces when the governor cannot serve as commander-in-chief. Instead of the adjutant general taking command, the person who succeeds to the governor's authority under the state constitution or other law would take command. This affects the adjutant general, the lieutenant governor and others in the line of succession, and it takes effect September 1, 2025.
