Summary
Per violation, plus attorney’s fees and court costs. State and local immunity? Gone!
This bill lets anyone who asks for public records sue a government body that breaks the Texas public information law, and win money damages. A winning requestor can collect up to $200,000 per violation in exemplary damages, plus attorney's fees and court costs, and the state and local governments lose their immunity from these suits. It covers records requests received on or after September 1, 2025, so agencies that stall or wrongly withhold records face real financial risk.
