Bill text, introduced version (I)

The bill takes effect in 2025, but existing facilities do not have to hold the certification until January 1, 2030. New facilities are covered starting in 2027. Both dates fall after the November 2026 election, though this reads as an open phase-in for existing operators.

Summary

No certification, no dementia care. New nursing homes and assisted living need it from 2027.

The bill makes Alzheimer's certification mandatory, so nursing homes and assisted living facilities can no longer care for people with Alzheimer's disease or related disorders without the special state certification or classification. It touches nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, their residents with dementia, and the Health and Human Services Commission, which must write the care standards by rule. New facilities licensed on or after January 1, 2027, need the credential right away, while existing facilities have until January 1, 2030.
