Summary
Drives with protected information get destroyed on the county’s order.
The bill lets a county commissioners court order the destruction of old data storage devices that held information protected by state or federal law. It touches counties that are getting rid of salvage or surplus computers, drives and similar equipment. Instead of selling or otherwise disposing of those devices under the usual surplus rules, a county may destroy them when it decides that is needed to keep data from leaking.
