Summary
Up from a state jail felony, and private schools now count.
This bill raises the penalty for a false report of an emergency at a college or a primary or secondary school from a state jail felony to a third-degree felony, and it newly covers private primary and secondary schools in that higher tier. It touches people convicted of making false emergency reports and the emergency agencies that respond to those reports. Judges may also order a person convicted under the school and college tier to repay an agency's reasonable costs of responding, starting with offenses committed on or after September 1, 2025.
