Summary

Schools must hand every high schooler a photo card. Local government cards count too.

The bill requires every Texas public school district and charter school to give each high school student a photo ID card showing name, photo and date of birth, starting in the 2025-2026 school year. It also widens the list of IDs voters may show at the polls to include student IDs from public or private high schools and colleges, plus any photo ID with a birth date issued by the state, a state agency, a local government or the federal government. On the ground, students and other voters could vote with a school card or a local government ID instead of being limited to the current short list.
