Summary

Tuition help for the degree they need to teach dual credit.

The bill orders the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to set up a tuition assistance program that helps certified public school teachers earn the master's degree they need to teach dual credit courses. To qualify, a teacher must have worked full time at a Texas public school for at least a year, still work there, and sign an agreement to finish the degree and then teach dual credit for five school years. Teachers who back out must pay the money back, with a one-year grace period for hardship, and the board pays the colleges directly out of appropriations and private gifts.
