Summary

Report due December 1, 2026, after the election. No rule, no penalty, no program.

The bill orders the Department of Public Safety to study how often stolen firearms have been used to commit offenses in Texas since 1980, using whatever data it already has. It touches only DPS, which must send a report to the governor, the lieutenant governor, the speaker and the criminal justice committees by December 1, 2026. Nothing changes for gun owners or police on the ground, and the law expires on February 1, 2027.
