Summary

6,000 pounds or less. The state still issues two plates.

The bill lets passenger cars and light trucks weighing 6,000 pounds or less show only a rear license plate, while the state still issues a set of two plates to these vehicles. It touches Texas drivers of ordinary cars and light trucks, the state motor vehicle department that writes the plate rules, and police who enforce plate display. On the ground, the front plate stops being required for most passenger vehicles, and the display offense now covers only the plates the law or rules actually require, starting September 1, 2025.
