Summary

Only the ones whose duties include responding rapidly to an emergency.

The bill adds animal control officers to the state homeland security law's definition of "first responder," but only those whose duties include responding rapidly to an emergency. It touches city and county animal control officers and the state emergency-planning programs that use this definition. On the ground, those officers would be counted alongside police, firefighters, EMS workers and dispatchers wherever state homeland security law refers to first responders, starting September 1, 2025.
