Summary

Applies to jail days, labor days and eight-hour community service blocks.

The bill raises the credit a defendant earns toward unpaid fines and court costs from $100 to $150 for each day in jail, each day of labor, and each eight hours of community service. It touches defendants who cannot pay misdemeanor fines or fines tied to jailed felony convictions, and the justice and municipal courts and counties that handle them. Starting September 1, 2025, people working off or sitting out fines clear their debt about a third faster, including for offenses that happened before that date.
