Districts skip certain payments when the Texas Education Agency finds a shortage.
The bill lets school districts skip certain payments to the Teacher Retirement System of Texas when they rehire retired teachers, if the district has a teacher shortage as determined by the Texas Education Agency. It touches school districts and retirees who retired on or after September 1, 2005, adding to the existing break for those who retired before that date. Starting with the 2025-2026 school year, a short-staffed district can rehire these retirees without paying those required amounts.
