Summary

“Settlement” becomes “statement.” Lawyers rejoice.

The bill fixes a one-word drafting error in the Family Code list of things a party can ask for in disclosure, changing "discoverable witness settlement" to "discoverable witness statement." It touches parties and lawyers in civil cases brought under the Family Code, such as divorce and custody suits. On the ground, a party can now plainly request witness statements as the court rules describe, and the fix applies to pending and new cases starting September 1, 2025.
