Summary

Plus its own account in the general revenue fund, until a 2037 sunset.

The bill creates a new nine-member state body, the Texas African American Heritage Commission, housed at the Texas Historical Commission, to identify, preserve and promote sites tied to the state's African American heritage. Seven members are picked by the Texas Legislative Black Caucus and one each by the presidents of Texas Southern University and Prairie View A&M University, and the Historical Commission must supply an executive director, support services and regular consultation on historical markers and federal preservation reviews. The new commission meets at least three times a year, can advise, take gifts and grants, and set up an affiliated nonprofit, and it gets its own account in the general revenue fund until it faces sunset review in 2037.
