Cities may pass the ordinance. Only for people 65 or older.
The bill lets a Texas city pass an ordinance setting rent control for people 65 or older. It touches city councils, landlords, and older renters in any city that chooses to use the power. Today the law ties city rent control to a declared disaster, and this bill adds a separate, permanent option for seniors that does not depend on a disaster.
