Summary

Officers and telecommunicators already had it. Fire fighters join.

The bill makes every government employer of peace officers, fire fighters, and telecommunicators adopt a paid mental health leave policy, adding fire fighters to a leave rule that already covered officers and telecommunicators. It also requires those employers to have a mental health professional or peer support advisor do a yearly mental health evaluation of each peace officer and fire fighter as part of the performance review. After a traumatic event on the job, the employer must offer the officer or fire fighter an evaluation and a chance at counseling, starting September 1, 2025.
