Summary

Firefighters and emergency medical workers join the police network.

The bill moves the state's peer support network for police officers from the police licensing commission to Texas Southern University and widens it to cover paid firefighters and emergency medical workers. The university must run peer-to-peer support, train peers in suicide prevention, build regional hubs in urban and rural areas, and send a yearly report to the governor and the legislature. Participation stays confidential under the public records law, and the police, fire and EMS licensing agencies may not discipline anyone for taking part, starting September 1, 2025.
