Summary

Grades 9 through 12, elective credit.

The bill lets Texas school districts offer high school students in grades 9 through 12 an elective course on car maintenance that counts for elective credit. If a district chooses to offer it, the course must cover basics like checking and refilling fluids, tire care and changing a flat, battery jumpstarts, fuses and air filters, dashboard warning lights, and safe shop practices. Nothing is required of districts that choose not to offer the course, and the rules apply starting with the 2025-2026 school year.
