Summary
State money fills the gap between what contracted pre-K costs and what the formula pays.
The bill gives school districts extra state money to cover the full operating cost of prekindergarten classes they run through contracts with community child-care centers, private entities, or eligible private providers. It touches school districts that use these outside pre-K partners, and the private and community providers that hold those contracts. The state would pay the gap between what those contracted classes actually cost, including staff, materials, facilities and curriculum, and what the district already gets under the school funding formula, starting September 1, 2025.
