Summary

Out: a council and nursing committee. In: a council, nursing committee, work group and workgroup.

The bill abolishes the existing statewide health coordinating council and its nursing advisory committee, and replaces them with a new Health Professions Workforce Coordinating Council housed at the Department of State Health Services. The new council brings together representatives from 15 state agencies and boards, plus four governor appointees, to gather workforce data and publish a health workforce strategic plan every two years, with a new nursing advisory committee and work group under it. A separate temporary workgroup studies how nurse aides, medication aides, personal care technicians and military-trained nurses could move more easily into nursing, and reports by December 1, 2026.
