Summary

Down from 70 to 77 days for congressional and legislative vacancies.

The bill moves up the dates of several Texas elections: runoffs for any special election must be held no later than 30 days after the main election's final count, instead of between 70 and 77 days for congressional and legislative vacancies. The party primary runoff moves to the fourth Tuesday after the primary, dropping the requirement that it fall in May, and special elections to fill vacancies must generally be held within 90 days of the vacancy unless a uniform election date is close. Voters, candidates and county election officials face shorter calendars for elections ordered on or after September 1, 2025.
