Summary

A credible witness or a current government photo ID counts.

The bill rewrites the list of proofs a notary or other officer can accept to confirm who is signing and acknowledging a written document. It covers officers who take acknowledgments and anyone who needs a document acknowledged, allowing a credible witness who is personally known to the officer or who shows a current government photo ID. It keeps government photo ID and, for residential real estate deeds, a current foreign passport as accepted proof, starting September 1, 2025.
