Summary
Hospitals offer them instead of throwing them away.
The bill makes Texas hospitals and surgery centers offer patients their leftover eye drops or eye ointment when they go home after surgery, instead of throwing them away. It applies when the medicine was ordered within 24 hours before the surgery and the patient's doctor prescribes it for ongoing care, and the facility must make sure the patient is taught how to use it. It also lets facilities share unlabeled eye medicine with other patients at the facility for up to 24 hours after it is first used, starting September 1, 2025.
