Summary

A new Public Information Act exception.

The bill adds a new exception to the Texas Public Information Act that makes certain personal details confidential when held by the Department of Public Safety, the Department of State Health Services, and the Health and Human Services Commission. At DPS, it covers sex, date of birth, and home address that people give to get or update a driver's license, state ID card, or handgun carry license; at the two health agencies, it covers the same details plus health-related information that people give to get health care services. Once it takes effect, those agencies must withhold this information from public records requests received on or after the effective date.
