THE TEXT

“Section 140.006, Local Government Code, is repealed.”

Bill text, introduced version (I)

The caption limits the bill to requirements on school districts, but this clause repeals the entire section, which also holds the newspaper publication duty for road and other districts. The printed text below it reads like an amendment instead, so the drafting conflicts with itself.

Summary

All of Section 140.006 goes. The text printed below it reads like an amendment.

The bill ends the rule that school districts must publish their annual financial statement in a local newspaper, and it moves the open-enrollment charter school rule into its own new section requiring those schools to post their financial statement on their website and make it available under the public information law. It touches school districts, charter schools, and, because SECTION 1 is written as a full repeal of Section 140.006, possibly road and other districts that now publish financial statements in newspapers. It also repeals Section 31.105(c) of the Education Code, whose contents are not shown in this text, and takes effect immediately with a two-thirds vote or otherwise on September 1, 2025.
