Summary
Asked the state for the exemption form? The student gets in.
The bill requires Texas public elementary and secondary schools to provisionally admit a student who lacks required shots or an exemption affidavit, as long as the family shows proof that it has already asked the state health department for the exemption affidavit form. It touches students and parents seeking vaccine exemptions, school admitting officials, and the Department of State Health Services, which must write rules for this provisional admission, accept online requests for the affidavit form, and issue a standard receipt for every request however it is sent. On the ground, a child no longer waits outside the classroom while the state processes the exemption form request, starting with the 2025-2026 school year.
