Summary
Member-run 501(c)(3) co-ops open to anyone qualify.
This bill widens an existing property tax exemption for nonprofit groups that run cooperative housing, which today covers only co-ops for students at a college or university. It lets 501(c)(3) housing cooperatives that are open to anyone, are governed by their members, and have members share management duties qualify, not just student co-ops. Starting with the 2026 tax year, more member-run nonprofit co-ops can stop paying local property taxes on their housing.
