Summary
One operative verb: “may.” No duty, no penalty, no deadline. Adopt the policy or don’t.
The bill lets a school district adopt a policy that allows a student to bring both a service animal and a separate person to handle that animal onto a district campus. It applies only when the student's admission, review, and dismissal committee or Section 504 team has decided the student needs the service animal to access the district's educational program and the student cannot handle the animal alone. No district has to adopt the policy, and a district that does may require the handler to be unobtrusive in the classroom.
