relating to active shooter training for peace officers.

Summary

No more finishing it in continuing education.

The bill moves the 16-hour active shooter response course into the required basic training curriculum for new Texas peace officers and drops the old rule that let officers finish it during their first continuing education period. It also lets officers meet both the basic and the continuing education active shooter requirements through a course from a firearms training provider, if the state licensing commission finds that course similar to the Texas State University program now named in law. Officers and training providers are affected, and starting September 1, 2025, the Texas State program is no longer the only approved source for this training.
