Summary

Paid to nonprofits. Covers caregivers up to 400 percent of the federal poverty level.

The bill tells the Office of Court Administration to set up a grant program that pays nonprofit groups to give legal help to relatives and family friends who take in a child. The help goes to caregivers earning up to 400 percent of the federal poverty level, for paperwork like medical consent forms, caregiver authorization agreements and custody suits. Nonprofits that win a grant must sign a contract that lets the office check that the money goes to that legal help, and the office writes the rules for who qualifies and how much they get.

Bill text, House committee report version (H)

The bill routes state money to nonprofit legal aid groups instead of having an agency deliver the service directly, though it requires a contract that gives the office control over how the money is used.
