Summary

Family violence, stalking and protective-order violations added.

The bill expands the list of people who count as crime victims under the Texas victims' rights chapter to include victims of family violence, stalking, and protective-order or bond-condition violations tied to assault or stalking. It gives those victims, their guardians, and close relatives of deceased victims new rights to learn about evidence and lab testing, to confer with prosecutors about charging and plea decisions, and to be told that the prosecutor does not represent them. It moves stalking victims out of the sexual-assault rights article and into a new article, while keeping their protective-order notice rights, and it applies only to offenses committed on or after September 1, 2025.
